Porcelain Veneers In Elk Grove
Porcelain veneers are very thin pieces of tooth-shaped porcelain that are custom made for your teeth. They are then bonded to the front of your real teeth to create a beautiful and attractive smile.
You may have seen many extreme makeovers or possibly followed celebrities who have had veneers. The “before and after” photos of a person who has just received a smile makeover look dramatically different and their overall smile is tremendously improved. This is one of those procedures that can totally transform your look, essentially, overnight.
Veneers also can make you appear more youthful. They seem to take years off of damaged or worn teeth. When you leave our office, you will be smiling from ear to ear.
Is It A Permanent Solution?
Porcelain veneers are not removable like dentures, or temporary like a mouth guard; they are considered a permanent solution. While they are considered a permanent solution, they may someday need replacement if damaged or discolored over time. However, porcelain veneers are very durable and can last for 20-30 years. Proper oral hygiene makes a big difference in the longevity of your new veneers. Make sure you brush, floss, and get to the dentist for regular check-ups to maintain a beautiful smile that you deserve!
If you visit our office for porcelain veneers, you can expect the process to usually take about two visits. Typically we don’t need to use anesthesia during the procedure, and there should be little or no pain involved. During the first visit, the teeth are lightly buffed to prepare the surface and to allow for the thickness of the veneer. A mold of the teeth is taken and you will select the shade of white that you choose for your new smile. The impression we get will be sent to a dental lab who actually custom fabricates your new look.
During your second visit, your teeth will be cleaned with special liquids to get the strongest bond with the veneer. Bonding cement is then placed between the tooth and veneer and a special light beam is used to harden and set the bond in place. Once the bond is set, we check your smile and bite and make sure everything is in place. Then comes the best part – we have you look at your new smile for the first time in the mirror!
